This dissertation examined formal and content response characteristics of the Tree Test according to
university student's ego-identity and effectiveness of the Tree Test as a complimentary tool for psychological
test on university student's ego-identity. The ego-identity test and the Tree study were conducted on 506
male and female university students. To examine the result of this study, two groups were divided: high
ego-identity group and low ego-identity group. Also, to find out the difference about each item of the Tree
Test between those two group, x² verification was conducted. The result process of the collected materials
was analyzed by using SPSS WIN 12.0. The study result based upon the purpose is as follows: First, in
formal analysis of the Tree Test, there was a meaningful difference in terms of position. Second, in terms of
content analysis of the Tree Test, there was a meaningful difference in branches. This study found out
response characteristics of the Tree Test among high ego-identity group and low ego-identity group. As a
result, the Tree Test seems like it easily shows psychological status and inner feelings of students.
