The purpose of this study was to investigate the structure-model of serious
leisure, recreation specialization, and flow. As the first part of the study,
literature studies for the relationships regarding the three factors of serious
leisure, recreation specialization were used for theoretical verification and
followed by the set-up of the research model. To verify the research model a
total of 413 adults aged over 20 were selected for survey study and the data
were used in the analysis. Using SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 7.0, Confirmatory factor
analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis and structural equation model
were applied. Study results indicated that there was a significant correlation
between serious leisure, recreation specialization, and flow. Also flow had
significant direct and indirect effects on serious leisure and recreational
specialization. Finally, the research model proposed in this study was considered
acceptable. The results showed that flow experience in recreational activity
enables participation in a more high-level leisure activity and that flow
experience is an important determinant to facilitate serious leisure and recreation
specialization.
