본 논문에서는 화폐도안의 상징성과 국가정체성에 대한 논의를 통해 다음과 같은 결론을 제시하였다. 첫째, 대한민국 화폐의 인물도안은 대한민국의 국가정체성을 상징하는 인물이 들어가야 한다. 둘째, 현재의 화폐에 포함된 3명의 인물도안은 대한민국의 정체성에 부합하지 않는 인물도안이다. 셋째, 국가보훈문화 확산의 전략적 방안으로서 화폐 인물도안을 국가보훈의 상징성 측면에서 접근해야 한다. 이상의 결론에 근거하여 구체적인 실천방안을 세가지 제안하였다. 첫째, 고액권 화폐의 도안으로 채택될 인물은 대한민국의 국가정체성을 상징하는 인물이어야 한다. 둘째, 대한민국의 국가정체성에 부합하지 않는 기존 3개 지폐의 인물도안도 모두 바꾸어야 한다. 셋째, 한국은행의 화폐도안 자문위원회의 구성에 미술가나 역사가 이외에도 대한민국의 국가정체성을 잘 반영할 수 있는 사람들을 포함시켜야 한다. 나아가 화폐도안권한을 국가보훈처나 혹은 국가보훈위원회와 같은 국가정체성을 가장 잘 반영할 수 있는 부처로 이관하는 것이 바람직할 것이다.
This study is on the symbolism of banknotes\' portraits and the national identity. The results are as follows. First, The portraits on the banknotes should symbolizes the national identity of Republic of Korea(ROK). Second. the three figures of current banknotes don\'t fit with the national identity of ROK. Third, as a strategic intent of spreading the spirit of patriots and veterans affairs, it is recommended that the portraits of new and old banknotes should be approached in the aspect of the symbolism of ROK\'s national identity. Based on the above results, three practical implimentations are suggested. First, the portraits of the new higher-value banknotes should fit with the symbolism of ROK\'s national identity. Second, the three portraits of the current banknotes which don\'t fit with ROK\'s national identity should be changed. Third, Newcomers well representing the ROK\'s national identity should be incorporated in the members of the advisory committee to pick up the portraits of banknotes. In addition to that, It should be reconsidered that the authority of deciding the portraits of banknotes is delegated to the Ministry of patriots and veterans affairs that is well representing the national identity of ROK.
