This study purposes to analyze how ‘Choong(loyalty)’ and ‘Hyo(filial piety)’, our people\'s most important ethics, are embodied in Korean classical novels and to scrutinize its meanings. The Confucianism, the ethical foundation of Chosun Dynasty, values the practical virtues of Sam Kang Oh Ryoon(the three bonds and the five moral rules in human relations) above everything else. Among them, ‘Choong’ and ‘Hyo’ are the most important virtues which indicate the basic directions on how to live as a human. Our classical novels are telling us that this ethical perspective dominates the social discourse of the time all over the classes or status. The Korean classical novels, originally targeted at the humble class, had wide-ranging
class of readers and the dominant theme across many works was ‘Choong’ and ‘Hyo.’ Among the works, it were and that dealt most evidently with ‘Choong’ and ‘Hyo.’
Through a story on three-time encounters between hero and heroine, tells us that loyalty is the right way to go through and proposes an issue of loyalty through telling a story on Sejo\'s usurpation of the throne and a story of Beckui and Sookje. is a kind of didactic novel and it includes the author\'s intention to deliver effectively the virtues of \'Sam Gang Oh Ryoon.\'
