본 연구의 목표는 우리나라 학생들의 학구적 요인(유능성)과 사회적 요인(관계성)이 시간의 흐름 에 따라 내재동기에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 검증하는 것이다. 본 연구는 한국교육개발원이 2005년부 터 중학교 1학년 학생을 대상으로 실시한 한국교육종단연구(Korean Education Longitudinal Study, 이 하 KELS)의 2차년부터 4차년까지의 자료를 이용하여 유능성, 관계성 그리고 내재동기가 시간의 흐름 에 따라 어떻게 변화하는지 이차 잠재성장모형(second-order latent growth model)을 통해 구조적 관 계를 분석하였다. 우선 변인간의 관계 검증에 앞서 유능성과 관계성, 내재동기가 각각 시간에 흐름에 따라 변화하는 양상을 살펴보았다. 유능성과 관계성은 시간의 흐름에 따라 조금씩 증가하는 반면, 내 재동기는 시간의 흐름에 따라 감소하였다. 이것은 변화율의 통계적 검증을 통해 얻어진 결과로 단순히 시간의 변화에 따른 변화가 아닌 진정한 의미의 변화임을 알 수 있다. 다음으로 시간의 흐름에 따라 유능성, 관계성, 내재동기의 구조적 관계를 분석한 결과, 유능성과 관계성이 높을수록 내재동기가 높게 나타났다. 또한 유능성이 높을수록 내재동기가 시간의 흐름에 따라 증가 하였으나, 관계성에서는 이러 한 관계가 도출되지 않았다. 이를 통해 학구적 요인(유능성)이 사회적 요인(관계성)보다 내재동기에 더 많은 영향력을 가지고 있음을 알 수 있다.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the longitudinal effect of competence (academic factor) and relatedness (social factor) on intrinsic motivatio. We used the 2nd-4th data of Korean Education Longitudinal Study that Korean Educational Development Institute conducted for 7th grade students from 2005, and investigated the structural relations among competence, relatedness and intrinsic motivation with time by second-order latent growth model. We examined the change of competence, relatedness and intrinsic motivation with time. The result revealed that competence and relatedness had increased slightly with time, but intrinsic motivation had decreased with time. Also, we investigated the structural relations among competence, relatedness and intrinsic motivation with time. The result showed that as the competence and relatedness increased, the intrinsic motivation increased. There was no positive relation, however, between relatedness and intrinsic motivation. Taken together, this study shows that competence (academic factor) has stronger influence on intrinsic motivation than relatedness (social factor).
