As a new voice in the field of family therapy, feminist family therapy is still being created, and is more a meta-model of family counseling based in philosophical ideals than a theory with clear techniques. Therapists using a feminist model of family work must evaluate their current theories of choice to determine whether the principles and applications are compatible with feminist principles. The purpose of this article is to understand the theory and methods of feminist family therapy as a meta-model. Especially, I will examine the concepts of feminist family therapy theory focusing on feminists\' criticisms on family systems theories. The history of development of feminist family therapy will be briefly examined. The role of the therapists and the process and the principles of feminist family therapy will be discussed. Finally, the core values of feminist family therapy will be addressed through a case example.
