Assistive technology skills based on the improvement of high technology result in the development of a various high assistive devices and, consequently bring about the revolutionary changes in the daily lives of the people with disabilities. Not only the consistent improvement of assistive technology skills, but also assistive technology services to collect, manage and deliver the information about the assistive devices to be developed systematically is important. At present, the United States of America occupies the prominent status in both of the assistive technology skill and assistive technology service field, which is due to the active activity of the organization, such as Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America(RESNA).
This paper has a purpose to propose the right direction for Korean Academy of Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology(KARA) by analyzing and understanding in detail the structures and activities of RESNA which is sustaining approximately 30 years.
This paper which uses the internet data collection and literature review as a main study method, includes the mission, vision, role and function, structure, bylaws of RESNA, and the contents concerning Tokushima agreement, special interest groups activity, professional specialty groups activity, certification program, code of ethics, standard of practice and membership benefit, as well as history of RESNA.
