본고는 촉각 인식에 기반하여 시각장애인들을 위해 개발된 음악점자가 학습의 매개로서 갖는 한계점을 보완하기 위한 다양식적 학습의 필요성을 논의하고자 하였다. 본고가 설정한 구체적 연구문제 두 가지는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 음악학습의 매개로서 음악점자가 어떤 특징을 가지고 있으며, 이것이 음악점자의 활용에 어떤 영향을 미치고 있는가? 둘째, 시각장애인의 음악교육에 있어서 양식성 활용 및 기술적 지원의 현황과 문제점이 무엇인가?본고는 위 두 가지 질문을 중심으로 음악교육 현장의 시각장애인 및 정안인 교사 및 학생들과의 심층면담 결과를 분석하여 음악점자 양식성의 확장을 위한 개념적 구조를 제안하였다. 분석 결과,촉각에만 의존하는 음악점자는 시각장애인 음악인들이 학습하고 활용하기에 쉽지 않고, 음악점자의 활용을 보조하는 기술적 도구들도 표준음악을 전적으로 재현해내지 못한다는 한계점을 갖고 있었다. 이를 바탕으로 본고는, 시각장애인들을 위한 음악교육에 있어서 다양식적 학습의 필요성을 강조하면서, 다양식성을 확장하기 위한 원리와 전략들을 제시하였다.
This paper aims to identify the limitations and dilemmas of Braille music as a medium of learning standard music for the musicians with visual impairment. The discussion of this paper is based on two research questions: first, what are the characteristics of Braille music as a mediation for music learning and how they affect the affordability of Braille music?; second, what modalities are used in actual music practices and what are the realities and problems of technical support? Based on these questions, by conducting interviews with the music teachers and the students with visual impairments, this paper suggests a new structure for expanding the multimodality of Braille music. The results of the analysis highlight that, due to the sole reliance on haptic sense, Braille music is not fully utilized and the technical supports are not capable of perfectly representing standard music. Based on this analysis, this paper argues for the necessity of multimodal approaches in music education. Finally, this paper discusses some principles for expanding non-visual modality and the significance of it for music education for the visually impaired.
