The purpose of this study was to review recent research into communication disorders caused by cleft lip and palate and to provide directions for future research in the field of speech and language therapy. To do so, we analyzed a total of 43 articles published from 2000 to 2018 in domestic journals. These articles were analyzed in terms of research subjects, research areas, and research methods. Research focused mainly on children. Domestic research on adolescents and adults was limited. Both domestic and international research focused mainly on the areas of articulation and language development, but the resonance, voice, and auditory area was limited. Also, auditory areas were not covered in domestic research. Also, evaluation and intervention regarding communication disorder caused by cleft lip and palate and the study concerning the feature of communication used by subject with cleft lip and palate need to be continued. Research focused mainly on intervention and characteristic study. Based on this analysis, we discussed a direction for future research in the field of speech and language therapy.
