The purpose of this study is to reconsider educational fever, meritocracy and educational fairness through the drama “SKY Castle”. The educational aspects shown in was threefold: the educational fever to fulfill one s desire, the educational fever to establish the firm royal family and the educational fever as a mirror to reflect the desire represented by “castle.” The discourse of the educational fever is that the success of the individual and the great family cannot be separated, the responsibility of chirdren’s education belongs to the female (mother), the success in college entrance exam that make the parents willing to accept anything, the college entrance exam that is not fair. The ideology inherent in such discourse was shown as 1) neoliberalism and meritocracy; 2) testocracy and the ideology of fairness: 3) familism and the ideology of motherhood.
has represented the social reality of Korean society, in which the meritocratic society built in the absence of publicness place a priority on the procedural fairness of the test based on absolutizing the meritocracy, even though a small number of specific social classes is the main beneficiaries. So far, the individuals are responsible for the results of education (such as grades) with the academic sectarianism/credentialism combined with the meritocracy, and the inequality and discrimination have been regarded as the result of fairness. It is necessary to acknowledge that education has played a role in solidifying the meritocratic ideology and reconsider the original meaning and purpose of education, rather than using the educaion as a means to shift the social class or to resolve social inequalities.
In addition, it is worth noting that children who have not been fully recruited by their parents generation are trying to escape. It is up to education to help them grow into a subject that poses problems to the ruling ideology and creates a new order. In other words, the education should play a role in discovering and expanding the gaps as their possibilities.
