The purpose of this study is to confirm the structural relationships among counselor development level, emotional clarity, self-compassion, and empathy ability. For this purpose, 362 counselors from various regions in the country completed a questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of the counselor development level scales, emotional clarity scales, self-compassion scales, and empathy ability scales. Among these, 350 responses were used in the analysis. In order to verify the structural relationship among variables, research model and competition model were established and the final model was selected through the fit of the model. The results of this study are as follows. First, there was a statistically significant correlation between the counselor development level, emotional clarity, self-compassion and empathy ability. Second, the counselor development level had a direct effect on the emotional clarity and self-compassion and an indirect effect on empathy. Third, the emotional clarity had a direct effect on self-compassion, an indirect effect on empathy, while self-compassion had a direct effect on empathy. Finally, in the relationship between the counselor development level and empathy ability, it was confirmed that emotional clarity and self-compassion were mediating completely in such order. Based on these results, the implications and limitations of this study and suggestions for future research were discussed.
