The purpose of this study is to promote international understanding by analyzing the support system for liberal arts curriculum of overseas universities and to find implications for the operation and support system of domestic universities. In particular, this study examined the operation and support system of the liberal arts curriculum of the Chinese universities adjacent to Korea, and the in-depth study focused on the cases of Tsinghua University and Peking University, which are said to be the best comprehensive universities among Chinese universities.
In order to analyze the support system for liberal arts curriculum of Tsinghua University and Peking University, the direction of talented and liberal arts education pursued by each university was examined. In addition, the objectives of the liberal arts education, the curriculum of the liberal arts, and the core liberal arts were reviewed. The core liberal arts of the two universities were compared in three categories: the number of subjects, the composition of the subjects, and the teaching and learning methods. Based on these findings, the support system for the liberal arts curriculum of the two universities was examined in five aspects: the organization system, the establishment of liberal arts curriculum, the faculty, the development of liberal arts education, and the recruitment of freshmen. In addition, the support system for liberal arts curriculum of the two universities was compared and analyzed by five items.
Through this, this study seeks to understand the liberal arts curriculum and support system in higher education institutes in China, and suggests implications and applicability to the operation and support of the liberal arts curriculum of Korean universities. I would like to discuss improvements. This study is expected to promote mutual understanding from the perspective of international understanding and to be used as a necessary material for educational development of both countries.
