본 연구는 다운증후군 성인 자녀를 둔 어느 어머니의 평생교육 경험과 그 의미에 관한 생애사 연구이다. 지적 장애 1급의 다운증후군 자녀를 25년 간 돌보아온 한 어머니의 자녀 양육과정에 학령기 이후까지 연결되는 지역사회자원을 활용해온 평생교육경험과 그 적용 가능성의 탐색을 목적으로 한다. 양육과정에서 지지 자원으로 활용된 지역사회 평생교육기관교육과 학령기 이후까지 연결되는 삶에 지지자로 나타난 평생교육경험에 대해 그 필요성을 이야기하며 어떤 시사점을 줄 수 있는지 분석해보고자 한다. 분석 결과, 양육과정에서 시기마다 ‘전환 학습’으로 지역사회 평생교육 활용의 과정에 22번의 ‘도전’과 16번의 ‘행복’이 나타났으며, 장애의 선입견과 편견의 현실 속에 이웃으로 함께하는 주체가 되어가는 과정을 이야기로 심층 분석하였다. 본 연구는 장애 자녀를 돌보는 어머니의 정서적 지지와 사회적 상생을 돕는 지역사회자원을 활용하는 평생교육 참여를 위한 프로그램 개발에 활용될 것이다. 또한, 장애 자녀를 돌보아온 어머니의 삶이라는 경험과정과 그 의미의 탐색은 그 가족이 처한 개별적, 사회적 맥락을 대변하여 지역사회 평생교육기관의 역할과 향후 관련 복지기관의 가족복지 정책 수립에 있어서도 보다 효과적인 개선방안을 모색하는 데 기여할 것이다.
This study is about the experience of a mother in community education who has grown up children with Down s syndrome. This is an in-depth search for lifetime education experience and application of community resources that lead to the nurturing of a mother who has been taking care of her children with mental retardation for 25 years. We will analyze the experiences of community lifelong education institutions, which were used as support resources in the process of raising children, and lifelong education, which has emerged as a supporter of their lives after school age. The results show that during the upbringing period, there are 22 “challenges and 16 happiness in the course of lifetime education. This research will be used as a material for developing a program for lifelong education as community resources to help mothers in support of their children to emotionally and socially coexist. In addition, the search for meaning in the life experience of mother caring for disabled children will be a representation of their families and will contribute to supporting efficient family welfare for fulfilling the role of lifelong educational institutions in the community.
