This study examines the job socialization process of independent corporate instructors. We conducted in-depth interviews with 13 independent corporate instructors. The interview questions and analysis framework were designed based on Miller s(2011) model that identified three stages of job socialization, that are anticipatory socialization, encounter, and metamorphosis. We revealed the challenges that the instructors had to face in each stage and identified the strategies taken to cope with the situations. Results indicate that previous work experience in the organizations affects the instructors’ decision to career change and facilitates the job socialization of the instructors, especially in anticipatory socialization and encounter stages. In encounter stage, it was revealed that independent corporate instructor society has closed and exclusive networks which is hard for newcomers to join. Instructors coped with this challenge by building broader networks with people that have different occupations, utilizing social network services(SNS) and publishing books. The analysis shows that the instructors aim to build strong and unique brand identities to be successful in the market. It was also found that the instructors often redefine the meaning of their career and often prepare for the next career move in metamorphosis stage.
