The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship between a mother s depression and children s executive function difficulties, and to suggest a way to reduce children s executive function difficulties. For this purpose, correlation analysis and hierarchical multiple regression analysis were conducted using data from 1518 mothers from the eighth data of the Panel Study on Korean Children [PSKC].
The research results are as follows: First, as a result of correlation analysis between the mother s depression, child s executive dysfunction, and mother s parenting stress, there were significant positive correlations between major variables. Second, the mother s depression directly affects children s executive difficulty in executive function, and the indirect mediating effects of the mother s parenting stress on the child s executive functions have been confirmed. This suggests the need for support that focuses on interventions to reduce the depression and parenting stress of mothers in order to help children s executive functioning difficulties.
