영문초록

The purpose of this study is to test the validity and reliability of the South Korean version of the cognitive, affective, and somatic empathy scales (CASES) for confirming that it measures the empathy of South Korean children appropriately. 594 fourth~sixth grade elementary students(295 male, 299 female) completed the K-CASES, the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI), the Korean Inventory of Callous-Unemotional traits (K-ICU), and the Aggression Scale. The results are as follows. First, confirmatory factor analysis provided support for a 3-factor (cognitive, affective, and somatic empathy) structure of K-CASES. These results indicate that empathy is not one factor, but multifaceted factors. Second, there were statistically significant differences in the score of the empathy scale by gender. In short, compared to male students, female students were marked by a greater score in empathy. Third, the internal consistency of the K-CASES was high. Fourth, correlation analyses revealed a positive correlation between the K-CASES and IRI, suggesting concurrent validity. Additionally, the K-CASES was negatively correlated with the K-ICU and the Aggression Scale, suggesting discriminant validity. Based on the results, implications and limitations of this study were discussed.
