Objective : The aim of this study figures out that training visual feedback in stroke patients with a swallowing
disorder affects how to enhance the suprahyoid muscle more effectively and improve the pharyngeal function at the clinical of treatment with the swallowing disorder.
Methods : 30 patients were randomly assigned to Jaw Opening Against Resistance Exercise with visual feedback or Jaw Opening Against Resistance Exercise without visual feedback. The experimental group performed the Jaw Opening Against Resistance Exercise with visual feedback and the control group performed the Jaw Opening Against Resistance Exercise. each for isometric 10 times, isotonic 30 times a session, once a day, five times per week, over a 8 weeks
Results : Both groups showed a significant improvement in their total and pharyngeal stage Functional Dysphagia Scale(FDS), Penetration-Aspiration Scale(PAS). Significant differences were observed in swallowing function according to the visual feedback. (p<.05), with significant differences between the groups.
Conclusion : The results of this study showed that the Jaw Opening Against Resistance Exercise combined with visual feedback are an effective intervention for dysphagia.
