2018년 4월 남북정상회담과 6월 북미정상회담을 계기로 한반도 대전환 시대가 열렸다. 한반도에서 가장 비정상적인 상황이 매우 크게 변하기 시작했던 것이다. 그러나 2019년 2월 베트남에서 열린 제2차 북미정상회담이 결렬되면서 한반도가 불안과 위기에 휩싸이고 있다. 2019년 현재 한반도에 평화를 정착시키는 길에 가장 기본적이고 절실한 과제는 1950년 시작된 한국전쟁을 끝내고 평화협정을 맺는 것이다. 인도적 대북지원을 포함한 남북 간 모든 종류의 교류와 협력이 중단되고 대화조차 단절된 상황에서, 남한의 종교는 북한과 미국 사이의 전쟁 종식을 위한 중재자 역할과 남한과 북한 사이의 단절된 대화를 잇는 촉진자 역할에 앞장설 수 있다.
Inter-Korean summit and North Korean-American summit in 2018 brought about great changes in and around the Korean Peninsula. With the breakdown of the second North Korean-American summit in 2019, however, the peninsula has fallen into instability and crisis. The most urgent task for peace on the peninsula is ending the Korean War which began in 1950 and making a peace treaty. The role of religions in South Korea should include helping to mediate to end the Korean War between North Korea and the United States, and helping to facilitate to resume dialogues between South and North Koreas.
