in July. The enactment of the law implies that society is responsible for character-education, which has been traditionally considered as a task of home and community. But the emergence of this law signifies that our society has turned to be a difficult place to live together. In other words, society has recognized the need for character-education and the fact that society must take responsible for it. The responsibility of character-education is not confined to family and school anymore. That change of the role is inevitable. In that respect, religion also should play a crucial role. As well known, educational value of religion, which is to make a human being better person ethically, is closely related to the purpose of the character-education. This paper is to examine the following questions concerning character-education, and seek to the answer those. First, why do we now need character-education? Second, how is the concept of character-education related to religious education? Third, what is the challenges and prospect of character-education programs, which is carried out by religious organizations?
