현대는 다문화와 다종교의 시대이다. 복잡다단한 시대 조류 속에서 종교가 지닌 평화실현을 위한 가능성과 그에 따른 교육의 기능을 찾아보는 일은 중대하고도 시급한 과제의 하나이다. 변화의 소용돌이 속에서 종교가 지니는 적극적이고 참된 평화의 실현이라는 교육적인 역할을 탐구하고자 하는 요청은 더 이상 미룰 수 없는 과제이다. 현대 종교의 현실에서 평화를 실현하기 위한 종교의 교육적 역할을 가늠해 본다. 그리스도교의 전통은 하느님의 평화, 즉 ‘샬롬’이라고 지칭 되는 완전한 형태의 적극적인 평화를 그 이상으로 이야기 해 오고 있다. 그리스도교, 그 중에서도 가톨릭 종교교육의 새로운 비전을 탐색하는 차원에서 평화에 초점을 맞춘 종교교육의 가능성을 찾아보고자 한다. 구체적인 사례로는 김수환추기경연구소가 지난 수년간에 걸쳐서 시행해 오고 있는 교육 내용 중에서 김수환추기경의 평화 이해와 평화실천의 내용을 중심으로 평화교육에 해당되는 부분을 다룬다.
We are in the age of not only multi-culture but also multi-religions. It is a profound and serious task searching the possibility for the realization of peace by religions and digging out the function of peace education in an extremely complicated streamling of the time. We cannot put the request off anymore that the educational role of religions for realization of genuine and active peace must be found in a world drawn in the vortex of change. In such a contemporary religious context, we try to aim at the educational role of religions for the realization of peace. Christian tradition has telling about ideal divine peace, i.e. perfect and active peace called “shalom.” We take aim at the possibility of religious education focused on the genuine peace as a new vision of Catholic religious education. As a concrete case study is dealt with the peace education at the Stephen Cardinal Kim Institute since 2011, composed along daring practice by Stephen Cardinal Kim Sou-Hwan(1922-2009).
