The alternative education movement in the early 1990s’ was a novel attempt in the context of college entrance exam oriented educational environment in Korea. After that, the numbers and types of alternative education institutes increased steadily. This was possible, partly due to thrustful participation of religious community. Along with the participation of religious community, the alternative education for mission schools also incurred many different problems. The purpose of this study was, as a point of departure for the intervention of religious community toward alternative school and alternative education, to find out problems related to religious alternative education. After reviewing the development process and situations of alternative education, we set-up three assignments based upon this review. Concretely, in the 2nd. chapter, we reviewed alternative education movement of private party, specialized education policies of government and intervention of religious community. We reviewed the ratio of religious alternative education institute, types of alternative schools, recruit conditions of teachers and students, curriculum management, school rules and roles of school parents for the 3rd. chapter. For the 4th. chapter we proposed some tasks such as securing autonomy and patency, prevention of ghettoism, mediation between characterization of religious value and publicness. At last, to arrange comprehensive level of alternative education for missionary alternative education, we proposed fact-finding survey at the level of academic circles for the religious alternative education. Joint tasks was proposed for government and alternative education institute for the problems of connecting between alternative schools and institutional schools. These tasks were set-up to find out directions of alternative education in the premise of interests for the multi-religious, multi-cultural situation and construction of alternative society.
