The study examined the effects of the Parent Education Program based on Buddhist Meditation and Four Unlimited States of Mind on mothers’ self-concept and their attitude towards child rearing. The research was conducted on 26 mothers of a D kindergarten in G city, Gyeongbuk. The mothers were divided into two groups, half for the comparison group, the other half for the experiment group. The eight-week parent education program conducted on the target group consisted of eight sessions with each session lasting two hours. The study used self-concept and child rearing as a means to measure the effectiveness of the program. The study brought about the following results: First, the mothers in the experiment group demonstrated their improved self-concept in post-test, compared to in pre-test. In addition, they showed more enhanced self-concept than their counterparts in the comparison group in post-test. Second, the mothers in the experiment group saw their rearing attitudes having changed in more positive way in post-test than in pre-test. In addition, their rearing attitudes changed in more positive way, compared to those in the comparison group in post-test. Given the results, the Buddhism-based Parent Education Program has proven to be effective in improving mothers’ self-concept and rearing attitudes.
