본 이 논문은 한국사회에서 종교 영역이 국가 영역에 개입하는 통로로서 종교계 생태 NGO의 등장 맥락과 시기별 역할 변화, 사회참여 방식 및 종단과의 관계를 분석하고자 한다. 오늘날 한국사회에서 종교계 생태 NGO들은 국가와 종단을 동시에 견제하면서 다양한 방식으로 정치에 참여하고 있다. 특히 종교계 생태 NGO은 시민사회의 목소리를 종단 내부로 전달하고 시정하는 역할과 동시에 해당 종교인들이 국가의 정치에 개입하고 목소리를 내는 창구로서의 역할을 담당하고 있다. 특히, 종교계 생태 NGO들은 다양한 저항운동 뿐 아니라 생태 교육 활동을 중심으로 사회에 참여하고 있으며, 이러한 사회참여 활동들은 종교계도 시민사회의 일원으로서 기능한다는 것을 시민들에게 인정받을 수 있는 계기를 형성하고 있다. 나아가 종교계 생태 NGO를 중심으로 종단간 연대와 협력, 교류가 활발히 이루어지고 있는 것을 알 수 있다.
The purpose of this article is to analyze the development and characteristics of the ecological NGOs in contemporary Korean Religions. Today, the ecological NGOs in Korean religions participate in public sphere through diverse ways, checking both the government policies and the religious beliefs and activities of their own religious orders at the same time. In particular, they have participated actively in ecological movements not only by the resistant way but also by the educational way, and their educational activities have been gradually expanded. And the ecological NGOs in Korean Religions play important roles in communication between civil society and their religious orders. Also, they fill the role of windows for religious people to participate in national politics.
