본 논문은 증산의 수행체계에 있어서 성과 경이 지니는 의미를 밝히는 것을 목적으로 한다. 증산의 수행체계 안에서의 성·경 의미를 명확히 하기 위하여 한국유학, 특히 율곡의 성과 퇴계의 경을 살펴보았으며, 이와의 비교를 통해 성과 경의 의미가 증산에 있어서 어떻게 승화되는지를 고찰하였다. 또한 이러한 일련의 과정을 통하여 증산이 제시한 성·경 수양법이 수양주체의 실천지향적인 측면을 강조하고 있음을 밝힘과 아울러 궁극적으로 지향하는 바가 무엇인지를 밝히고자 하였다. 증산이 제시하는 수양법은 종교적 신앙을 바탕으로 하며, 증산의 수행체계에 있어 성·경의 실천은 자아완성이라는 궁극점을 향해 나아간다. 이는 완성된 자아, 즉 ‘인존’이라는 새로운 인간 모델과 ‘도통진경’이라는 이상적 세상을 목적으로 함을 의미하는 것이다. 이는 수양주체의 자발적인 수양을 통해서만이 도달 가능한 것으로 수양주체로서의 인간 역할이 부각되고 있는 것이다.
This study aims at giving light on the meaning of ‘Sincerity’(誠: Cheng) and ‘reverent seriousness’(敬: jing) in its system of self-cultivation accomplished by Jeung-San. ‘Sincerity’(誠:Cheng) and ‘reverent seriousness’(敬: jing) should be required necessarily for the mental state of ‘In-jon’(人尊) as an ideal symbol that the thoughts in Jeung-San eventually would achieve. these two concepts mean certain methods for self-cultivation as a right attitude towards it. Regarding these concepts as important ones for the above reason, this paper focuses on what the concrete result could be as the ultimate goal for cultivation. In order to clear up the meaning of ‘Sincerity’(誠: Cheng) and ‘Reverent seriousness’(敬:jing) in self-cultivation by Jeung-San, this paper not only deals seriously on details with the understanding of Confucious meaning of (誠: Cheng) and (敬: jing), but also make an effort on grasping the various aspects in meaning of (誠: Cheng) and (敬: jing) on several religious thoughts and other pre-existing philosophical ones. In this process of consideration, it studies on how the meaning of these two concepts had been sublimated by means of a comparative viewpoints with presenting resources. Therefore, this studies purposes the clear understanding for its peculiar feature that the methods of ‘Sincerity’(誠:Cheng) and ‘Reverent seriousness’(敬: jing) as self-cultivation would intend to put great emphasis upon the practical inclination with cultivating self for oneself.
