인간의 심충심리를 밝힌 유식불교와 융의 분석심리학에서 중요한 개념인 종자설(種子說)과 원형(原型)을 비교 고찰하였다. 유식불교의 인식론인 식(識)구조와 아뢰야식을 바탕으로 종자설을 정의, 특성, 인과 및 윤회와의 관계, 훈습의 측면에서 살펴보았다. 융의 집단 무의식을 간략히 정리하고, 원형의 개념과 그 특성 및 기능과 꿈과의 연관성을 고찰하였다. 종자설은 불교의 종교적 무아(無我)와 윤회의 조화, 수행과의 관련에서 특성이 있으며, 원형론은 근대 서구 인간관인 합리적 학문의 바탕위에 무의식이 표출되는 꿈, 예술작품, 종교의식, 전설과 신화등에서 상징성의 이해를 제공한다는 특성이 있다. 이 둘은 심층심리의 핵심이란 점에서 유사하지만 종교적 측면과 학문적 측면에서 상호 접근방법과 목표가 다름을 볼 수 있다.
The 'seed' concept in Yogacara Buddhism, and 'archetypy' in Jung's analytic psychology are compared Based upon the epistemology of the Yogacara Buddhism, namely, the structure of eight conciousness level and the Alaya-vijinana, We considered the seed theory by the definition, preperties, relations to the causality, the Karma, and the permeation. Jung's collective conciousness is briefly cummarized, and the concepts, properties, functions and relations to dreams of the archetype are reviewed. the seed theory is characreristic in conection with the harmonious union of non-self and Karmic recycle of Buddhism, and religious practices, while the archetype is more concerned whith dream, arts, religious rituals, legendary and mythology for rational understanding of their symbolism. The 'seed' and 'archetype' thepories are similar in their concern with the deep conciousness, but their methods and goals are different.
