In rapidly industrialized society, the Korean people is living in the profound danger of dehumanization. So they are looking for an alternative spirituality, which is able to cure the wounded mind of the modern human being.Won-Buddhism was found at the end of the Joseon-dynasty. That was really uncertain and unstable period. but during this difficult time Won-Buddhism has made a surprising development. Then there must be a certain reason. I suppose, it is the very suitable spirituality of the Won-Buddhism that attracts the Korean people. Therefore my research is focused on the spirituality and spiritual training of the Won-Buddhism. The core spirituality and spiritual training of the Won-Buddhism is, in my opinion, balanced training of personal spirituality and social practice. This kind of balanced spirituality is named samhak (threefold learning) and its fundamental is jeongsinsuyang (training of the mind). For the new millennium and for the 21st century but Korean religions, Won-Buddhism included, need to be renewed for their new mission, namely to create an alternative spirituality for modern mankind. Korean religions need at this moment dynamic equivalence and hermeneutic renewal.
