증산에서 연원하는 대순사상은 그 의미내용이 서민적이면서도 직접적이고 구세적이라고 할 수 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 그의 사상은 은유적이고도 복합적이어서 배면에 담고 있는 본질을 해석하는 데에는 많은 어려움이 따르고 있다. 대순사상의 핵심은 참혹한 현실 세계를 개벽을 통하여 후천의 이상세계로 전환한다는 종교적 논리 구조의 ‘천지공사’ 이다. 이러한 천지공사는 인간과 외계사물에 대한 증산의 종교적 경험세계라고도 할 것이다. 그러므로 이것은 개별적 내용의 진위여부보다는 그의 종교적 경험세계에 대한 실천행위의 상징으로 이해되어야 한다. 이러한 상징체계는 미숙하고 근시적인 상태에서 해방되려는 기층민중들의 욕구를 반영하고 있다고 할 수 있다.본 논문에서는 천지공사의 몇 가지 예를 종교적 상징으로 해석하고 의례에서 나타나는 언어 또는 사물들이 어떠한 의미체계를 가지며 인간의 현실생활에 있어 어떻게 관계하는지 살펴보기로 한다.
Daesoon-Thought originated from by Jeungsan is considered as the messianic and democratic one, while it is difficult to interpret essences and fundamental meanings hidden in Thought of Jeungsan because his thought is metaphorical and multiphase. The very essence of thought of Jeungsan is ChunGi-Gongsa that makes it possible to transform the humble real world into utopia, called Hoocheon through the means of Gaebyuk . Since ChunGi-Gongsa is based on his religious experiences regarding people and external environments, it should be understood as the symbolism acting on his religious experiences, rather than trueness on each individual fact. In this regards, the paper tries to interpret several instances of ChunGi-Gongsa by the perspective of religious symbolism, and show the meaning of the languages and artifacts appearing in the religious ceremony, along with examining how they interact with the real world.
