PURPOSE The purpose of this study is to reveal the process through which self-transcendence consciousness, an essential ability of the futuresociety, and to explore what educational methods can support this consciousness development process.
CONTENTS To achieve this purpose, first, the stages of consciousness development of representative transpersonal psychologists Phenix, Wilber, and Wiedemann were explored. These scholars commonly argued that human consciousness develops through the process of immanence, relationship, and transcendence. Second, the representative methods of contemplation are Nhat Hanh's meditation, Merton's contemplation, and Palmer's meditation. They commonly argued that these methods help to reach self-transpersonal consciousness through the sequence of three steps. Also, they argued that contemplation is possible not only in silence, but also in everyday life.
RESULTS In order to help develop self-transcendence of students, it was suggested that the daily educational activities of the school should be reorganized as experience contemplation. And it was suggested that the classroom and school should be constituted as spaces where true dialogue takes, and teachers should also recognize their role as phenomenological texts.
