PURPOSE The purpose of this study is to categorize values based on the level of self-enhancement and self-transcendence values, then to reveal the differences in happiness according to each type, and to explore the personal factors and family background that influence the determination of the value type with high happiness.
CONTENTS In this study, variance analysis and binary logistic regression analysis were performed using of 2021 year data of KGSS. Through this, first, was found that the value types of Koreans were classified into four types, and the happiness of individuals in the ‘value-mixed type’ was higher than in the ‘vale undetermined type’. Second, gender, age, religious, health, and marital status do not have a significant effect on the probability that an individual belongs to a the value-mixed type with a high happiness, but educational level, family’s income level, and family relationship satisfaction have a positive effect.
RESULTS A follow-up research will be conducted to investigate how self-enhancing and self-transcendental values interact to affect personal happiness. And in order to improve the sense of happiness, support should be given to maintaining close relationships with family members.
