Recently, It is said that Korean democracy is facing many problems such as partisan populism, the rise of expert-guardian group, judicialization of politics, failure of representatives, political polarization etc. In order to resolve these problems, some scholars is suggesting republicanism as a one solution. The aims of this paper is to search the ideal and characteristics of roman republicanism and examine republican citizenship and suggest activities for teaching republican citizenship. The results of study are as follows. The republicanism is the political idea that pursues harmony, balance, co-existence, public good, common prosperity among various groups. In order to achieve harmony, balance, co-existence, public good, common prosperity among various groups, Republicanism needs freedom as non-domination, equality, division of powers(check and balance), rule of law, political participation, political rhetoric, plurality and unity, humility/moderation/duty, management of conflict, public good, patriotism etc. Republican citizen means the citizen who admit and respect individuality, difference, vulnerability, plurality of each person groups, and conflicts among persons and groups, and try to build co-existence, public good, common prosperity among various persons and groups through a republican political process. Republican citizen needs the sense of justice and public good, and self-control and modesty as well as excellence and glory, duty and responsibility as well as right, emotion and dialogue as well as rationality and logic in dialogue and discussion. These characteristics make republican citizenship different from modern democratic citizenship.
