본 연구는 미취학 자녀를 둔 어머니를 대상으로 그릿과 삶의 의미와 같은 개인적 특성, 부모 자녀 상호작용과 양육 스트레스와 같은 자녀와 관련된 변인, 결혼 안정성과 부부 의사소통과 같은 부부간 관계 변인이 어머니의 부모소명을 어떻게 예측하는지 알아보고자 하였다. 만1~6세 미취학 자녀를 둔 여성 422명을 대상으로 자기 보고식 설문조사를 실시하였다. 구조방정식 모형 분석 결과, 그릿, 삶의 의미, 부모-자녀 상호작용에서 어머니의 부모소명으로 가는 직접 경로 모두 정적으로 유의하였으며, 양육 스트레스에서 어머니의 부모소명으로 가는 직접 경로는 부적으로 유의하였다. 한편, 결혼 안정성과 부부 의사소통의 예측력은 유의하지 않았다. 본 연구는 양육에 대한 부담이 큰 시기인 미취학 자녀를 양육하고 있는 어머니의 부모소명에 초점을 맞추어 이에 영향을 줄 수 있는 다양한 특성의 요인들을 종합적으로 살펴보았다. 특히, 부부 및 결혼 관련 특성과 양육 특성보다 어머니 스스로 삶에 대한 의미를 찾고 이를 발견하고자 하는 삶의 의미 그리고 어머니가 가진 장기적 목표를 향한 열정과 노력이 부모소명 형성에 주요하게 기여할 수 있음을 확인하였다는 데 의의가 있다.
This research investigated how personal characteristics such as grit and meaning in life, child-related variables such as parent-child interaction and parenting stress, and marital variables such as marital stability and marital communication, directly predict the mother’s parental calling. The data of 422 mothers with children between the ages of 1 and 6 were analyzed using structural equation modeling. The results indicated that grit, meaning in life, and parent-child interaction positively predicted maternal parental calling, whereas parenting stress negatively predicted parental calling. In contrast, the marital factors failed to predict the mother’s parental calling. Our findings examined a variety of factors from various domains in order to identify predictors of a mother’s parental calling. It is notable that personal attributes such as grit and meaning in life played a greater role in explicating parental calling than any other variables.
