[연구 목적] 한반도의 종교인구는 지난 한 세기간 꾸준히 증가했다. 하지만 이러한 흐름은2000년대 초반에 들어서면서 완전히 바뀌었고, 이후 탈종교화 현상이 지속되고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 이러한 탈종교화 시대를 살아가는 대한민국의 Z세대에게 필요한 대학의 종교교육은 무엇일지를 살펴보는 것이다. [연구 내용] 이를 위해 본 연구는 먼저 대한민국의 탈종교화 현상에 대한 개괄적인 분석을 실시한다. 그리고 현재 대학의 종교교육 대상자인 Z세대를 다른 나라의 Z세대들과 비교하여 살펴볼 수 있는 바키재단(Varkey Foundation)의 조사 결과에 대한 분석을 제시한다. 그리고 이를 토대로 대학에 현재 필요하고 효과적인 종교교육으로 ‘영성교육’을 제안하고 논의한다.[결론] 본 연구는 영성을 종교성보다 포괄적인 것으로 정의하며, 영성교육은 궁극적으로 학생들의 종교에 대한 무관심에 외면받지 않으며, 제도종교에 자신의 종교성을 연결해야 한다는 의무나 부담은 피할 수 있게 도우면서, 동시에 그들의 감춰진 종교성을 다시 꺼내 마주할 수 있도록 하는 종교의 심층적 본질을 회복시키는 종교교육이 될 수 있을 것으로 제안한다.

[Objective] The religious population of the Korean Peninsula had steadily increased over the past century. However, this trend completely changed in the early 2000s, and since then, the phenomenon of de-religionization has continued. The purpose of this study is to examine what kind of religious education in colleges and universities is needed for Generation Z in South Korea in this era of de-religionization. [Contents] This study first provides an overview of the de-religionization phenomenon in Korea. Then, it presents an analysis of the Varkey Foundation's survey results to compare Generation Z in Korea with Generation Z interviewed in other 19 countries. Based on this analysis, the author proposes and discusses ‘spirituality education’ as the type of religious education currently needed and effective for the present generation. [Conclusions] This study defines spirituality as more inclusive than religiosity, and suggests that spirituality education can ultimately be a form of religious education that restores the deeper nature of religion, helping students to avoid feeling obligated or pressured to connect their religiosity to an institutionalized religion, while at the same time allowing them to rediscover their hidden religiosity and nurture it.
