This study investigated the effects of person-centered art therapy to reduce school refusal and depression of an adolescent. The subject was a second-grade middle school boy with depression and at risk of grade retention. A total of 16 sessions were given from June 2018 to November 2018. Each weekly session was 1-hour long. For analysis, the researcher used the School Refusal Scale-Revised-Children (SRAS-R-C), the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CES-D), the HTP, and the KFD. For qualitative analysis, all activities in each session were observed, recorded and analyzed by the researcher. The results demonstrated that person-centered art therapy can reduce school refusal, lower depression and facilitate creativity. Thus, person-centered art therapy appears to have a positive effect on reducing school refusal and depression.
