This study conducted an ontological inquiry to find the meaning of space that repeatedly appeared in the researcher's art therapy work and to answer the fundamental existential questions of the resercher's own life. It was a deep journey to find the researcher's own existence and a process to understand the meaning of the beauty of the space that appeared along with the colors from an art therapy perspective. For the research, the main research object was the painting work in art therapy classes during the graduate doctoral program from March 2023 to December 2023. As a research question, the researcher examined two existential questions: first, what do I experience through the space in my paintings, and second, what is the meaning of the space in my paintings, focused on Heidegger's concept of‘Sein’ and Lao Tzu's concept of the ‘Tao.’ Through this, the space allowed to experience the researcher's own existence, to be an absent present and experience absence as presence, and to realize how the researcher should live as a ‘Dasein' interacting with art therapy. Through this study, the researcher was able to recognize that the meaning of the space was the infinite possibility of creating the resercher's own life and the limited dignity of turning to nature. Based on these findings, the significance and limitations of this study were discussed.
