본 연구는 N세대 교사들의 가치관, 행동양식, 지식을 살펴보면서 그들의 N세대적 특징들이 학교생활 속에서 어떻게 고수되고 변화하는지를 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 A초등학교에 근무하는 N세대 교사를 대상으로 집단면담을 통한 질적 연구를 수행하였다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, N세대 교사들은 현재의 즐거움을 최우선으로 생각하며, 학교를 직장으로, 학생지도를 업무로 받아들이고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 둘째, 교사의 복장은 자신을 표현하는 수단으로 보았으며, 적극적 의사표현은 시간이 지남에 따라 점차 하지 않는 모습을 보여주었다. 또한, 교사문화를 수평적이라 생각하면서도 수직적으로 행동하고 있었다. 셋째, 수업에 대한 정보와 자료를 인터넷 교사 커뮤니티에 의존하며, 인터넷 자료로 수업의 시작과 마무리를 즐겨 하는 모습을 보여주었다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 교직에 입문하는 N세대들에게 교육의 가치와 철학에 대한 교육, 세대 간의 이해를 위한 연수, 학습공동체의 경험을 제공해줄 필요가 있음을 제언하였다.
This study aims to investigate school life of N generation teachers through a measurement instrument which includes three areas such as essential culture, symbolic culture, and practical culture. Researchers implemented focus group interview with N generation teachers in a selected school for collecting qualitative data. Results are as follows. First, teachers consider current pleasure the top priority of their values in the essential culture and regard teaching as job instead of education. Second, for behavior in the symbolic culture, teachers express identities through their dress at work. They also share their least opinion. In addition, they act as if there exists strong hierarchy in school although they think of the school as flat. Third, for knowledge in the practical culture, teachers collect instructional materials and information for teaching from online teacher communities and apply online teaching resources to introduction and closure activities in class. The results imply that teacher education programs should include courses introducing values and philosophy of education to preservice teachers of N generation and promote their participation in professional learning communities in the future.
