This study examined the effects of group mandala art therapy on the self-expression, self-esteem, and resilience of women with schizophrenia. Thirty female inpatients with schizophrenia at H hospital for psychiatric rehabilitation in S city were randomly assigned to the experimental group (15 patients) and control group (15 patients). A test of homogeneity was conducted, and group mandala art therapy was carried out in 15 sessions of 60 minutes each to experimental group. The sessions were held once a week from August 27, 2019. The results were analyzed through pre and post t-test with SPSS WIN 25.0, the Mann-Whitney U test, ANCOVA, and Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The results of this study are as follows. First, the group mandala art therapy was found to positively affect the improvement of self-expression, as a significant increase in the self-expression scale of the experimental group was noticed. Second, the group mandala art therapy was found to positively affect the improvement of self-esteem, as a significant increase in the self-esteem scale of the experimental group was observed. Third, the group mandala art therapy was found to positively affect the improvement of resilience, as a significant increase in the resilience scale of the experimental group was noted. The results showed that the group mandala art therapy had a positive effect on the improvement of self-expression, self-esteem and resilience of women with schizophrenia. Depending upon this study, it is looking forward that the group mandala art therapy program will be widely used as a more useful medium for the prevention and treatment of recurrence of female schizophrenia patients and forethemore for their recovery and return to society.
