본 연구는 존 듀이 예술철학 관점에서 음악의 형식과 본체의 의미를 다잡으려 한다. 존 듀이 예술철학은 1차 소여와 실재를 담고 있는 자연을 그 범주로 한다. 자연은 모든 예술의 존재는 물론이고 형식 발생의 근원으로 작용한다. 자연의 생명 에너지들의 유기화는 형식의 조건이 된다. 이 조건에서 음악의 형식은 항상 유동적이고, 역동적이며, 과정적인 미적 경험으로서 음악의 의미를 드러내는 방식이고, 음악의 본체는 알려지도록 만들어진 새롭고 강화된 음악의 의미가 된다. 따라서 듀이 예술철학 관점에서 음악의 형식과 본체는 어떤 지적인 구조나 틀로서가 아니라 미적 경험으로서 가능하고, 음악을 경험하는 사람 누구나가 음악적 의미를 소유할 수 있다. 이런 발상전환적 견해는 ‘모든 사람을 위한 음악’이라는 현대음악교육철학 이념의 초석을 굳건히 할 뿐만 아니라, 앞으로 AI시대의 긴요한 역량인 은유적 능력을 함양하는 경험으로서의 음악의 미적 경험을 위한 중요한 인자로 작용할 것이다.
This study attempts to grasp the meaning of the form and substance of music from the perspective of John Dewey's art philosophy. John Dewey's art philosophy takes nature containing primary contribution and reality as its category. Nature acts as the source of all art's existence as well as the occurrence of form. The organization of nature's vital energies becomes a condition of form. Under this condition, the form of music is always a method of revealing the meaning of music as a fluid, dynamic, and processive aesthetic experience, and the body of music becomes a new and reinforced meaning of music made to be known. Therefore, from the perspective of Dewey's art philosophy, the form and substance of music are possible not as any intellectual structure or frame but as an aesthetic experience, and anyone who experiences music can possess a musical meaning. This ideological perspective not only solidifies the cornerstone of the philosophy of modern music education of ‘music for all people’ but will also serve as an important factor for the aesthetic experience of music as an experience that cultivates metaphorical ability, an essential competency in the AI era.
