[Objective] The purpose of this paper is to examine the theory of the Danjeon-Practice in ‘Kwan Um School of Zen (KUSZ)’, founded by Zen Master Seung Sahn, and to examine its implication for current education. [Contents] To accomplish this purpose, we will first examine the theoretical underpinnings of Dan-jeon in KUSZ and then describe the methodological aspests Dan-jeon (丹田, dantian, elixir field) partice taught in KUSZ. The famous teaching of Zen master Seung Sahn, “Only don’t Know,” is directly relate to Dan-jeon. According to KUSZ’s teaching, the head is considered the “center of thought,” the chest the “center of emotion,” and Dan-jeon the “center of action.” Through Dan-jeon breathing, it’s believed that we can achieve a balance between knowledge and emotion. And it’s also a path that harmonizes with the world around it. [Conclusions] Western-style modern education, introduced in the late 19th century, has long dismissed Eastern spiritual tradition and been characterized by a strong emphasis on intellectualism. in today’s society, where conflict and tension are escalating, examining the Eastern tradition of balancing knowledge and emotions, and finding harmony between oneself and the world, can help us recognize the limitations of modern education and explore alternative approaches.
