This study aims at examining the effect of group integrative arts therapy
program with parents suspected of child abuse and neglect as a parental
education program to prevent child abuse and neglect. This is the integrated
arts therapy program composed of art therapy, journal therapy, cinema
therapy, role play, bibliodrama to deepen the effect of program organically for
the participants. This program which six parents, child abusers, were put in
was conducted at A Child Protection Agency in Gyeonggido for 8 sessions
from May to July, 2011. Pre- and post-assessment of KFD and Social Atom
were carried out on participants and the contents of each session were
recorded and analyzed. The results of this study are as follows: Firstly,
through this program, participants were able to heal the wounds from their
negative experience of the past. Secondly, through this program, they were
able to acquire positive parental role. Lastly, through this program, their
family became closer than before by improving their interpersonal skills. In
conclusion, it can be said that group integrative arts therapy program is very
helpful to prevent the parents, child abusers, from abusing and neglecting
their children.
