일반적으로 1970년대 이전의 결혼만족도에 관한 연구는 교육수준, 수입, 결혼기간, 자녀수 등과 같은 사회․인구학적인 변수들을 중점적으로 다루었다. Hicks와 Platt(1970)는 남편의 수입과 교육수준, 부부간의 사회적 지위의 유사성, 나이, 종교가 결혼만족오와 관련이 있다는 것을 발견했다. 다른 연구자들은 수입이 결혼만족도를 증가시키고(Goode, 1962; Locke, 1951), 이 수입은 삶의 질에 있어서 중요한 부분임을 발견했다(Berry & Williams, 1987). 사회․인구학적인 변수들이 결혼만족도에 영향을 미치지 않는다는 연구(Nah, 1993; Park, 1995)가 나타나면서 1970년대 이후에는 애정, 성 동료의식, 의사소통 등의 상호작용 요인과 성 역할태도, 자아개념 등의 사회․심리적인 요인에 비중을 두고 있다(Spanier & Lewis, 1980). 본 연구에서는 한국 개신교 목회자들의 부부 갈등해소와 결혼만족도에 영향을 미치는 많은 변수들 중 부부간의 의사소통, 신앙심, 가사의 역할분담과 결혼생활에서의 결정권을 중심으로 연구하고자 한다.
This study investigated the marital satisfaction among Protestant pastors in Korea. Four variables were selected in this study. They were the faith, division of household tasks, decision-making power, and the communication. The results of this study were as follows. First, the faith was not associated with marital satisfaction among Protestant pastors in Korea. It was found that their faith were limited in religious dimensions. Second, the division of household tasks was not related to marital satisfaction among Protestant pastors. They believed that household tasks belonged to wives in Korea. Third, decision-making power was not associated with marital satisfaction among Protestant pastors. The reason was that respondents were men and husbands. They believed that the decision-making power belonged to husbands in Korea. Fourth, communication skills were significantly related to marital satisfaction among Protestant pastors. Communication skills was an important dimension in marital satisfaction. The researchers suggest that social workers need to encourage Protestant pastors and their families to develope communication skills.
