This study critically examines the appropriateness of the 2009 Revised National English Curriculum. It first takes a look at the major revisions made in the Revised Curriculum in comparison with the 2007 Revised National English Curriculum. These are the introduction of common and elective curricula; modification of content, such as achievement standards, and reorganization of subjects that belong to the elective curriculum. The study then analyzes whether the major revisions are appropriate and applicable to the secondary school English classroom. Although several revisions are desirable such as the redefined period for the elective curriculum, the reduced number of achievement standards, etc., the Revised Curriculum still shows some negative aspects. They include ambiguity with respect to some achievement standards, lack of concreteness in differentiating subjects in the elective curriculum, etc. Some suggestions are made based on these issues addressed.
