The purpose of this study is to explore possibility of NIE for enhancing self-directed learning
ability on middle school students. To achieve this aim, First I identified the meaning of
Newspaper In Education and self-directed learning ability and examined articles on this theme.
Second, I performed a survey about influence of NIE upon Self-directed learning ability. The
subjects of this study are 568 of second grade students in the middle schools of capital area.
The results are as follows:
First of all, it turns out that the more the rates of reading on newspaper of the students are
the higher the levels of self-directed learning ability of the students are. Second, the NIE in the
home turns out positive effect on self-directed learning ability of the students. The NIE in the
school only turns out positive effect on some elements of self-directed learning ability of the
students. On the other hand, type of NIE doesn't turn out positive effect on self-directed
learning ability of the students both home and school. The results of this study shows
possibility of NIE as scheme for self-directed learning ability.
