Bender Gestalt Test 는 시각적 자극을 제시하고 이를 묘사시킴으로써 지각-운동적 기능을 통하여 개인의 특징적인 성격을 밝히려는 검사이기 때문에 Rorschach, TAT와는 달리 비언어적 검사이며, 9매의 간단한 기하학적 도형으로 구성되어 있다. 이 도형들을 피검자에게 한 장씩 차례로 보여주고 그것을 종이 위에 그리도록 한 다음, 그 결과에 대하여 형태심리학의 이론을 기초로 개인의 심리적 과정을 분석하고 해석하고자 하는데 그 목적이 있다. 본 연구는 아동의 지적·성격적 특성과 BGT 반응간에 어떤 관계가 있는가를 알아보기 위한 목적으로 서울특별시내에 위치한 S공립초등학교 4학년 아동 211명을 무작위 표집하여 지능검사, 학력검사, 성격검사를 측정한 결과와 BGT 반응결과와의 관계를 분석하였다. BGT의 채점항목은 Koppitz의 채점법에 따른 30개의 독립적인 문항 척도가 사용되었고, BGT 반응의 규준자료 역시 Koppitz의 아동용 규준점수를 측정 해석의 기준으로 사용하였다. 연구결과 아동의 지능수준과 BGT 반응간에는 유의한 상관이 있었으며, 또한 국어나 수학학력이 우수할수록 BGT 반응도 우수하였다. 그리고 정서적 안정성이 높거나 자신감과 우월감이 높은 성격의 아동일수록 BGT 성적이 우수하였다.
The Bender Visual Motor Gestalt, Commonly known as The Bender-Gestalt Test is widely used by clinincal psychologists, predominantly for detection of brain damage. In this test, the nine simple designs shown in figure 1 are presented successively one at a time. The examinee is instructed to copy each design, after placing the sample in front of him. The designs were selected by Bender from a longer series originally employed by Wertheimer, one of the founders of Gestalt School, in his studies of visual perpection. The particular designs were constructed so as to illustrate certain principles of Gestalt psychology, and Bender\'s own analyses of the test results are formulated in terms of Gestalt concepts. The author attempted to estimate the relationship between individual characteristics and BGT responses of children. BGT was administered to 211 primary school students. The results were scored Koppitz\'s quantitative method. The author\'s conclusions are as follows: 1) Significant differences are found between emotionally disturbed children\'s responses and normal children\'s responses. Emotionally disturbed children\'s BGT scores are lower than normal children\'s BGT scores are lower than normal children\'s BGT scores. 2) Significant correlation between the results of BGT and of the IQ Test was observed. 3) It seems that children\'s BGT responses are influenced by cognitive traits and BGT is very useful to estimate maturation level of emotionally disturbed children.
