Lately, most of the companies have begun to recognize the role of human resources which are the greatest resources to improve the productivity and profitability in the midst of extremely competitive environment. As a result, human resources bacame the most powerful tool to sustain competitiveness and developing the individual and organizational competency is one of the most important issue in corporate education.
In this paper, the theoretical background and the cases of utilizing the competency-based curriculum in corporate education are discussed. First, the importance of human performance technology from a holistic view point of corporate management is emphasized and the technique of competency-based curriculum is reviewed based on the idea of competency-based performance system by Dubois. Second, the detailed development processes of competency-based curriculum technique developed by Motorola University and the cases of utilizing the technique in Motorola University and LG Electronics are summarized. Lastly, the implications of utilizing competency-based curriculum is discussed.
