This paper focused on adverse life experiences of minority groups of people including multiethnic Korean children and adolescents, immigrant brides, and other adults of foreign backgrounds living in Korea. First, the authors reviewed the most recent study outcomes that dealt with problems of discrimination against people belonging to these minority groups of population, barriers to children’s education, and difficulties in interethnic or international marriages. Then, the authors examined the types of hardships associated with these minority groups by analyzing various media reports on difficulties experienced by biracial children, foreign wives married to Korean men, and immigrant workers from other countries. Utilizing qualitative data from three major Korean newspapers that are published in English, the authors discussed policy issues such as discrimination, educational barriers, physical and verbal abuse, financial difficulties, and family breakups. Based on content analysis outcomes, this paper presented comprehensive public policy agenda in three areas: Antidiscrimination policy, multicultural education, and preventive social welfare programs.
