Museums are facing great challenges for developing appropriate educational and cultural programs to reach its goals, to meet the social needs of the community in which the museum is located, and to apply the related governmental policies. Located in Gamgok-myeon, Eumseong-gun, Iron museum is supported and run by Seyun Cultural Foundation. In this article the current issues and the ways to improve the museum education are discussed through the case study of Iron museum’s programs. The problems that were found in the planning and the operational issues on Iron museum’s programs are lack of methodological planning to achieve the museum’s goals, lack of appropriate evaluation for improvements, lack of professionals, lack of collaboration and participation of community and lack of marketing skills. These challenges can be significantly improved by retraining of the staff, active networking with the other museums, sharing the information with other museums on current education programs in museums and their detailed evaluation results with related institutions such as Korean Association of Museum Education. Also Creativity․Character Education for nurturing STEAM Character and 5 school-day policy which started in 2012 have presented progressive collaboration models to both museums and local education institutions and encouraged specific improvement on museum education programs. Together with the museums’ own efforts and the policies driven by governmental supports, sustainability of creative museum education with its community can be considerably extended.
