This study investigated the effects of group art therapy utilizing a transactional analysis on the
relationship between parents and adolescent children. The study participants were 20 mothers who had
adolescent children living in a city. 10 were designated as an experimental group and the other 10 as a
control group. The experimental group received a 11 session program designed to improve the relationship
between the mothers and their adolescent children from March through April, 2011, once or twice a week,
each session two hours long. Data were analyzed using Repeated measures ANOVA with groups
(experimental and control) and test points (before, after, and follow-up) as variables. When there were
interactions, simple main effects were analyzed. Duncan's multiple range test was used to compare the
effects between groups and test periods. The study found that the group art therapy program utilizing a
transactional analysis was effective in improving the relationship between parents and adolescent children.
This study is significant in that it explored the possibility of using group art therapy utilizing a
transactional analysis in improving the relationship between parents and adolescent children
