본 연구는 기능성 게임의 동기와 교육적 효과를 극대화시키기 위한 메세지 개발을 위해 진행 되었다. 메세지는 자기 결정성 이론(self-determination theory)에 근거한 내재적 목표 프 레임(intrinsic goal framing)과 외재적 목표 프레임(external goal framing)을 중심으로 구성되었으며, 이 두 가지 유형의 메세지 중에서 어떤 것이 더 효과적으로 기능성 게임의 동기 와 성과를 향상시킬 수 있는지를 살펴보았다. 또한, 개개인의 이슈 관여도가 메세지 정보처리과 정 및 동기에 영향을 주는지 알아보기 위해 이슈 관여도를 조절변수로 실험하였다. 이를 위해, 총 120명의 한국 중학생들을 대상으로 2x2(목표 프레임 x 이슈 관여도)의 집단간 비교 실험 을 하였다. 실험은 먼저 1) 관여도와 목표 프레임을 설정하기 위한 메세지를 읽고 2) 실제 기 능성 게임을 실행 후, 3) 응답지에 질문하는 형식으로 진행되었다. 실험 결과, 내재적 목표 프 레임을 기능성 게임 전에 제공하는 것이 외재적 목표 프레임 메세지를 보여주는것 보다 게임에 대한 동기 및 교육적 효과를 훨씬 더 극대화 시키는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나, 개개인의 이슈 관여도의 경우, 주효과 및 상호작용 효과는 없는 것으로 나타났다.
This study aims to investigate effects of external aid that can enhance motivation and performance of serious game playing to maximize learning effects. Based on self-determination theory, two types of rationales, intrinsic goal framing and extrinsic goal framing, were examined to examine message type effectiveness. Also, individual’s level of issue involvement was tested as a moderating variable. To investigate the effects of goal framing on motivation and moderating effects of involvement, this study used a 2 x 2 (goal framing x involvement) between subjects design with 120 middle school students in Korea. Three procedures were involved in the experiment: 1) receiving messages with involvement and goal framing manipulations 2) playing an actual serious game, and 3) answering a survey questionnaire. Overall, providing an intrinsic goal before a serious game was more effective at increasing both motivation and performance than presenting an extrinsic goal. However, there were no main effects or interaction effects in terms of issue involvement.
