한국어교육은 다양한 학문과 연관되어 있고, 실제와도 가까워 그 이론을 명확히 정리하기가 그리 쉽지 않다. 여기서는 크게 이론, 응용, 실제의 이론체계를 갖는 학문이라 정리하고 이론적 작업이 현재 아주 부족하며, 특히 응용단계와 실제단계의 이론이 빈약하다고 보았다. 그리고 이런 작업의 일환으로 현 한국어교육의 문제점을 교수현장, 교수/학습원리, 교수/학습자, 목표수준, 교수법에 걸쳐 살펴보았다. 현재의 상태를 파악하고 문제점을 제기하고 해결을 위한 가설을 세워보기도 했으나, 워낙 교육 실제 전반을 훑는 개론적 성격이 강한 작업이었는지라 논의의 치밀함과 깊이에 있어 부족한 것 등 부끄러운 점이 많다. 그러나 한국어 교육이라는 것이 다양한 변인이 많아 그 개개변인에 대한 각 론도 중요하지만, 이와 같이 그를 하나로 꿰어 큰 틀을 살피는 일도 한국어교육 이론정립을 위한 기초작업으로서 시급히 필요한 일이라고 생각한다.

영문초록

I started this research with the question of how a theory of teaching Korean language as a foreign language can be developed. As it is related with other fields of Korean studies such as history and culture and is rooted in practice learning experiences, it is not easy to define an intellectual framework for Korean language teaching. However in this dissertation, I propose exactly to incorporate these interdisciplinary and practical application features into a systematic theory for Korean language teaching. It is my opinion that current theories regarding Korean language teaching do not adequately address these issues. I address my research about Korean language teaching to its location teaching spot, teaching/learning theory, teacher/learner, level of aim and teaching method. I evaluate current Korean language teaching theories, question some of its effectiveness and propose my own theory. As this is only an introductory delve into Korean language teaching reform. I focus more on commenting on the present state of Korean language teaching rather than developing an elaborate new theory. Hopefully later a more in depth discussion regarding Korean language teaching can occur after this kind of overview study has provided a basis for this newly explored field of education.
