This dissertation has the following two prerequisite. First, the historiography which
represents the historical consciousness of \'the period of democratization\' is \'Korean history of
the before and after time of liberating from Japanese colony 『해방전후사의 인식』\'. Second, the
representative history description which reflects the historical consciousness of \'the period of
pursuing a advanced nation\' is \'New understanding Korean history of the before and after time
of liberating from Japanese colony 『해방전후사의 재인식』(From below, \'New understanding\')
On this above prerequisite, I will investigate the significance of the latter(\'New
understanding\') as a text of new Korean contemporary history education through this paper.
Why do I investigate \'New understanding\'? It is not because I evaluate \'New understanding\'
representative historiography of \'the period of pursuing advanced nation\', but because I think
\'New understanding\' a good text, which involve the new historical recognition of \'the period
of pursuing advanced nation\' from the present point of view.
It can be set with aim of the new history education that they will rear the Korean who will
conduct Republic of Korea with advanced and unified nation by freedom and democracy. With
this together, it also may be set with aim of the raising of historical thinking and citizenship.
The text of new history education must correspond with the following three direction of the
historical development of Korea. First, the text must guarantee to support the justifiability of
ROK & to establish the true identity of ROK. Second, it must aim at a peaceful unification of
ROK which will be come true by freedom and democracy. Third, it must pursue the
advancement of ROK on the background of globalization and knowledge base society. With
this together, it must pursue the raising of historical thinking and citizenship.
As a result of discussion in this paper, I can assert that the \'New understanding\' involve
the following kind of significance. Above all, it seems that the \'New understanding\' as a text
for new history education satisfies the conditions on which it must guarantee to support the
justifiability of ROK & to establish the true identity of ROK. But, it seems that the \'New
understanding\' is holding a problem from the view point that it must aim at a peaceful
unification of ROK. Also, the \'New understanding\' have both a limit and a possibility from the
view point that it must pursue the advancement of ROK. And then, \'New understanding\' will
be permitted with affirmative evaluation from the view point that it must pursue the raising
of citizenship.
